Construction and fit out of a new training centre at CIT’s East Perth campus. The centre will house the institute’s qualifications and courses related to sustainability, the environment and green skills training. The building will ultimately be the first 6-star Green Star educational and training facility in the state. Green Skills is a 4 storey building designed ‘to be the embodiment of sustainable technology, practice, architecture, construction, landscaping and engineering.’

It consists of a structural steel skeleton with an in-situ concrete ground slab and pre cast Delta flooring. The footings are pad footings with larger strip and pad footings to accommodate shear walls which will tie in the Delta flooring and the structural steel. The roof is comprised of metal roof sheeting with an array of PV panels mounted above to provide electricity for the building. On the third floor there will also be a ‘green roof’/ outdoor area with landscaped gardens, trees and shade structures for students to utilise.

The external walls are glass on the ground floor whilst on the remaining floors they are steel stud framing with Exotec CFC cladding, Alucobond composite cladding, metal roof sheeting and Tallowwood timber shiplap cladding. The external façade is made up mainly of perforated architectural sunscreens attached to a steel structural framework with additional PV panels distributed along the northern face of the building. Incorporated amongst this layout at the external stairwell are artwork screens depicting a design by a local artist.

Also included in the features of the building is a black water treatment plant to provide irrigation and two large rainwater tanks to provide flushing to the building.
